WHO DESERVES TO BE BLESSED?
In my article titled I HOLD THE FOUR ACES, I wrote about a lady who tackled me after I wrote a short story titled ‘Stolen waters’ and ‘Still Waters.’ In these stories, I told the story of a lady called Angela who got pregnant for her sister’s fiancé and married him. She was abandoned in that marriage for ten years before God touched the heart of her husband and he came back to her. As far as that lady was concerned, Angela did not deserve to obtain mercy from God after what she had done. I reminded her that the girl had suffered for ten years but she said it was not enough. She said Angela was doomed to suffer till she died.
I was alarmed but not too surprised because I hear people talk like that almost every time. When someone is facing difficulty in life, people say, ‘It’s because of that sin you committed. God is punishing you for it.’ Sometimes people do not even need to tell us. We tell ourselves that we are suffering for crimes we committed.
And so there is a kind of demarcation in life. Some people deserve certain blessings because they have been ‘wonderful’ while others are doomed to suffer because they do not deserve anything good.
So a lady who has slept with married men does not deserve to be a wife….
A lady who has committed several abortions does not deserve to have a child….
A man who has defrauded so many people does not deserve a thriving business…
It does not matter if all these people have obtained mercy at the feet of Jesus.
No! Only those we ‘consider good’ deserve to be blessed.
Sure. I know all about the laws.
The Law of Karma.
The law of reaping what we have sowed.
The evil that men do living after them.
But I also know about the blood of Jesus that cleanses ALL sins.
A blood that is superior to every law.
So do not tell me that Sister A deserves a husband while sister B does not.
Do not preach the wrong doctrine that Sister C should have a child because she married as a virgin while Sister D should not be a mother because she committed several abortions.
Do not condemn Brother A to a life time of poverty because he was a criminal before he repented while saying that Brother B should swim in prosperity because he has been honest all his life.
Do not condemn the pastor who is living a prosperous life and applaud the musician who sells nude videos and drives the best of cars.
Do not sit in judgment and determine who deserves to be blessed.
For God alone knows who truly DESERVES TO BE BLESSED. And it is his prerogative to bless whoever he chooses to bless, without consulting anyone.
As I end this piece, a song plays in my mind.
We are BLESSED!
We’ve got clothing, shelter and strength
We are blessed
We are BLESSED!
We know we deserve it and yes, we are blessed!
Sing along with me if you truly believe that in this year 2018 and beyond, you truly DESERVE TO BE BLESSED.
