WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN
I found the title of this song by a man called Michael Bolton a fitting title for this love message.
I got inspired to write it after I watched the romantic comedy, THE ROYAL HIBISCUS HOTEL. You should see that movie if you have not. Beautiful! Simply beautiful! A lovely love story, with the two main characters, Deji and Ope firmly fitted, like perfect peas in a pod. Rippling with powerful lessons about love and life.
My friend, Ola wrote her own lessons from the movie. I will in this piece focus on one aspect of the movie that interested me so much.
The prototype dream of every lady, tall dark and handsome Deji had come to the hotel to close a business deal and saw a lady, Ope whose presence tugged at his heartstrings. He was enthralled and asked who she was. He was not bothered about the fact that someone said she was a cook in the hotel. He liked what he saw and did not slack at all!
There was Chika, the gum-chewing receptionist who was equally enthralled by the Dashing Deji and went all out to get him. A particular scene struck me. Chika had come to Deji’s room asking to give him a body massage but he turned her away.
Check out his response when Ope came to his door with a bottle of wine and two glasses. His eyes lit up like a thousand stars. He ushered her into the room with so much pomp and pageantry, like she was royalty.
What a contrast!
It shows how differently things play out WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN.
The truth about this love matter is that A MAN KNOWS WHAT HE WANTS. And when he sees that special woman, HE GOES AFTER HER. No one needs to say anything to make the man move. So when a man has to be cajoled, given a sermon and ‘followed up’ to talk to a lady, something sure is wrong. The man ain’t interested. Truth be told.
Haven’t you seen men who were becoming ‘forever bachelors’ wake up suddenly to get married? The one who was searching for something in Ebute Metta and his MASTER counterpart in Tinsel are prime examples.
If you get my drift.
Like Pastor Kingsley who has been a long-standing marriage counsellor said:
‘Lady, when a man is interested in you, you will know. If you have any doubts, he is not interested. If a man tells a lady, ‘I am busy,’ that is a code language for saying NGWA BYE, as my Ibo people will say. Even Bill Clinton, as busy as he was during the time he was President of the United States of America had a girlfriend. So that boyfriend of yours who is not even the president of his street cannot say he is too busy for you. NO MAN IS TOO BUSY FOR THE GIRL HE LOVES.’
You hear that? So ladies, it’s time to SHINE YOUR EYES. Learn to know when a guy has switched off so you can stop chatting with him. If a guy does not want you, if you like cook diamond sauce stew, dance atilogu dance in bed, wash all his clothes and undies and go to his house to play IYAWO TIDE (Wife has come) or Ekaette as my Susie will say, he will take all the juice you have to offer and STILL GO for the one he truly loves.
A man knows WHEN HE LOVES A WOMAN.
Men, so people say, are project driven. So if a man loves a woman, he goes after her. I still remember that scene from the movie, COMING TO AMERICA. Akeem left his African village where he was a prince with all the affluence to live in poor surroundings, just to find true love. His parents chose a lady for him but he did not love her. Then he found, Lisa, a simple lady whom he grew to love. When Akeem’s father heard about it, he felt she was not up to his class and intimidated her. Akeem was unhappy about this and challenged his father. His mother asked a crucial question:
‘So you care for her.’
‘Mum, I love her,’ Akeem said, without a stutter in his voice.
‘Then go after her,’ she said.
Akeem rushed after Lisa in the rain, ignoring the threats of his kingly father.
WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN, he goes after her. He pulls out all the stops to make her his. Some men have gone as far as hiring ‘toasters’ to help them talk to ladies if they are too shy to approach them. But the bottom-line is that they ‘did something’ about their affection.
As Valentine’s Day is unveiled once again, we hope to see the beauty of true love unveiled. That MAN WHO LOVES THAT WOMAN will step up to her and do the right thing.
For WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN, he knows what to do.
Happy Valentine’s day, my lovely readers.
