I write this piece with nostalgic feelings in my heart. I have been at this place I am about to talk about. Many of you reading this may have been there too.
We hear the comments regularly:
‘Look at that lady. She has it all. She is so lucky. I wish I could be like her.’
‘That man is ‘the bomb.’ The epitome of success. Why is my life like this? Why can’t my life be as colourful as his?’
And the comments go on and on.
How many times have you desired to TRADE PLACES with someone. To live that person’s life and feel on top of the world.
I remember how a friend used to talk so glowingly of something I possessed which she did not have.
One day I told her, ‘Let us exchange our lives. Take what I have and give me what you have.’
‘Ah no!’ She exclaimed. ‘I cannot do that.’
‘Oho! That means you have something to be grateful for.’
The scriptures warn us against this feeling of dissatisfaction:
‘For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. (II Corinthians 10:12)
It is not wise to compare yourself with another person. God made you unique and put everything you need to excel in you. Anything you don’t have, YOU DON’T NEED!
I used to desire to add weight. I did all I could to attain that feat. But the more I tried, the slimmer I became!
Now I love TALL, TRIM, TRENDY and TANTALISING ME!
I am PERFECT FOR MY DIVINE PURPOSE!
What about you?
