PAID IN FULL
A woman who had just come out of surgery lay weeping silently on the hospital bed. She looked at the paper in her hand and the tears continued to flow.
It was her hospital bill and she had no idea how she would pay it.
The doctor who had done the surgery walked in and asked what was wrong. She pointed at the bill, too distressed to speak. The doctor smiled and assured her all was well. Then he took the bill from her, wrote something at the bottom of the page and gave it back to her as he walked out of the room, closing the door gently behind him.
The lady looked at what he wrote at the bottom.
……….PAID IN FULL…….WITH A GLASS OF MILK.
Her memory travelled down many years before. On a sunny afternoon when a young boy knocked on her door and asked for a cup of water. She saw the hunger in his eyes and she gave him A GLASS OF MILK instead. The boy was so grateful
Years after, she was rushed to the emergency ward of a hospital. She needed urgent surgery. The doctor on duty went into action and performed the surgery that saved her life.
The doctor was that young boy she gave a glass of milk years ago……………………………
What a great reward for a moment of kindness.
Pause for a moment and think of many times when you had opportunity to show kindness to the next person but you missed it for one reason or the other.
I remember when I needed money urgently as the family prepared for my father’s burial. A friend of mine paid some money into my account. Money that came in SO HANDY.
As I thanked her, she laughed and told me of how she spoke to her husband that they should assist me financially. Her husband said they will look for that money anywhere to give me. He remembered how she had a baby and there was no money to discharge her from the hospital and no pram for the baby to sleep in. He came to my office and I gave them the money, refusing to collect the repayment.
I had forgotten the incident but the seed I sowed “spoke” for me at the right time.
What seeds are speaking on your behalf?
Many of us have sown bad seeds in the past but the mercy of God will speak for us.
For now, start sowing seeds of kindness.
I was so touched by that story and asked God to erase my record of bad seeds and help me to cultivate good seeds from now on!
What about you?
