IF ONLY I KNEW
Many years ago, a white lady took her daughter to the boarding school and rushed out of the dormitory, appalled.
She went to the office of the house mistress and lodged a complaint.
‘My daughter has to leave that room,’ she screamed angrily.
‘Why?’ The woman asked.
‘I don’t want her to stay in that room with that…..black girl,’ she said, disgusted.
Her request was granted and her ‘precious’ daughter was given another room.
Many years later……………..
The same woman came on air to make a confession for a grievous crime she committed in the past.
She had prevented her daughter from being a close friend of a GREAT WOMAN!
For that black girl who she did not want her daughter to share a room with is MICHELLE OBAMA.
How could she have known that the black girl she despised YESTERDAY will become the FIRST LADY OF AMERICA in FUTURE.
I remember this story as the world celebrates a woman of grace, poiseand intelligence; a graduate of two Ivy league universities.
And I wonder at the world we live in.
Maybe you have been stigmatised and told you will amount to nothing.
Those who despised you shall like this lady say, ‘If only I knew.’
We are assured of a great destiny in Christ:
‘Whereas you have been forsaken and hated so that no one went through you, I will make you an eternal excellence, A joy of many generations.
