I SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Controversial title? Hmmmmm! If I ask you this question: Do you support domestic violence? What will you say? Let me guess. You would look at me with a look of horror on your face and probably say, “of course not.” Now let me say that many times, a lot of us in a subtle way support domestic violence.
How? You may ask. Now come with me on this journey to revelation.
I am a MATURE SINGLE LADY so I write from experience. I have heard so many people make very nasty comments about single ladies. Any little thing they do, the general comments are: ‘No wonder she is still single. Who will marry her?’
How do you think single ladies who hear such comments feel and what steps do you think they will take? They will become SO DESPERATE that they will MARRY JUST ANYBODY to remove the societal stigma of prolonged singleness.
The matter does not end there. When they get married, they will DO EVERYTHING to remain married. They will TAKE THE HOT BLOWS from a violent spouse, use makeup and fake smiles to cover up their bleeding faces and hearts, just because they do not want people to laugh at them in their single state.
There is another category. Of ladies whose parents arrange for them to get married to their rich business partners’ sons to cement a business relationship. Such ladies cannot complain when their husbands are battering them. “Do you want me to lose my business contacts? ” The parents will tell them if they dare complain. So they sacrifice the happiness of their daughters on the altar of money!
Then come the “super enduring mothers” who tell their daughters that they should ENDURE EVERYTHING to keep their marriages. I watched an episode of Agatha Amata’s Inside Out Talk Show where she said a lady will run to her mother and complain that her husband was beating her. Her mother will laugh sarcastically and say, “Do you know how many times your father beat me? Yet I stayed because of you and your siblings.”
Really? The fact that you TOOK IT does not mean I should TAKE IT!
So how many of you are guilty of supporting domestic violence?
When you mock that lady who is SINGLE and BLEEDING from negative comments, you are supporting domestic violence.
When you abuse that divorcee, telling her she is a horrible person that’s why her marriage did not work, you are supporting domestic violence.
When you SELL YOUR DAUGHTER to that man to win a contract or deliver your family from poverty, you are supporting domestic violence.
When you tell your daughter to endure anything she sees in her marriage for the sake of the children, you are supporting domestic violence.
When you COUNSEL(or is it cancel) that lady to stay in an abusive marriage and keep praying, (as if she cannot pray in her father’s house) you are supporting domestic violence.
When you read this message and still do all the evils highlighted here, you are supporting domestic violence.
Let us respect the DIGNITY OF WOMANHOOD and stop SUPPORTING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!
