HER OWN MONEY

I remember the day it started.
I went with my friend, Ese to visit a mutual friend of ours. There, we watched a film titled Died Wretched. It told the story of a man whose nephew refused to help him when he was in need and arranged for an elaborate burial when he died.
The family of the man attacked the wife for not helping their son and she proclaimed her innocence, saying she begged her husband to assist. Then I turned to the friend I went to visit and asked, ‘Why couldn’t she assist her husband’s uncle? Doesn’t she have her own money?’
I will never forget the look of sheer disdain on my friend’s face. She looked at me the way an adult would look at a child after a blatant display of foolishness and then asked, ‘How can she have her own money?’
I was pensive when I left her house that day. I turned to Ese and asked, ‘What do you think about what she said? Is it wrong for a woman to have her own money?’
‘That’s her own opinion.’ Ese said. ‘As for me, I MUST have my own money.’
I was glad that someone agreed with me. Years after that discussion, I met some women who preferred to sit on soft seats on easy streets, refusing to work and expecting their husbands to buy everything for them including undies! How shameful!
Women, wake up! That era of women sitting down and waiting for the man to do everything is over. Woman, strive to have YOUR OWN MONEY! No matter how little it is, it gives you respect before your husband.
Even if you are a stay-at-home mum or you aspire to be one, FIND SOMETHING TO DO! When you have money, you have a voice! (Ecclesiastes 9:14 – 16)
Every woman needs to HAVE HER OWN MONEY. We need more voices to rule our world!
