CREATING PROSTITUTES
When Reginald Ebere, my colleague from way back wrote an article titled IN DEFENSE OF PROSTITUTES, many people were enraged. Most times, people do not bother to read content before they jump into conclusions. Titles can be misleading. Several times, I have been accused of using controversial titles.
When I wrote I SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE and I HAVE A SUGAR DADDY, a lot of people jumped into conclusions before they read them.
This post has the markings of controversy because of its title. I was inspired to write it when I read a Facebook post about The Characteristics of a Cheap Girl.
The writer took great lengths to talk about the cheap girl who flaunts herself at men, pulls her clothes in a jiffy to grace every man’s bed and is a disgrace to womanhood. A well articulated piece. I made just three comments:
Girls, stop being cheap. Men, stop ‘creating’ cheap girls. Prostitution will not thrive without patronage.
It is from these comments that this message was born.
I do not seek to justify prostitution. Those who know me can testify that I am a stickler for morality. I believe so much in the dignity of womanhood. But I think we need to address some vital issues that many have ignored.
What’s the meaning of the word, prostitute?
The word web defines it as ‘a woman who engages in sexual intercourse for money.’ The Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary defines it as ‘a person who has sex for money.’ The first definition limits the word to the feminine gender. The second one suggests that there are male and female prostitutes.
Quite revealing.
Using the first definition, we want to incorporate the Godly injunction that sexual intercourse should be between a man and a woman. (Romans 1:20-28)So the conclusion of the matter is that if there are NO MALE CUSTOMERS, prostitutes will be out of business. Those of you who have businesses know that you are out of business if your customers desert you.
Do you catch my drift?
Yet prostitution is usually called The World’s Oldest Profession. It continues to thrive and is a money spinner in some places. Why?
Because the prostitutes ALWAYS HAVE CUSTOMERS.
Do you see how we help to CREATE PROSTITUTES?
It is very easy to call that girl CHEAP.
It is very convenient to gather in bars and reel out vodka-induced jokes about women who are so quick to jump into bed with men.
But the issue is that for any event to occur, there must be cooperation between two parties. If the men are not as quick as the women to pull their clothes, we will not have CHEAP GIRLS anymore.
A woman, who was COMMITTING ADULTERY WITH HERSELF was once brought to Jesus. (John 8) How hypocritical!
So the male culprit was let off the hook and the woman was left to bear the shame.
Doesn’t it take two to commit adultery? Just as it takes two to tango?
I watch with a measure of disquiet as the female gender is castigated.
Everyone has a word to say to the women about the beauty of keeping a home, pleasing a man and being a dignified woman.
I wonder who on earth is TALKING TO THE MEN?
So in many churches, there is the women’s fellowship, the men’s fellowship and the single ladies fellowship. What about the single men’s fellowship? When ladies are groomed to be wives, are they not going to be placed under the leadership of men? Who tells these men how to be good husbands? Who tells them that women are meant to be by their side and not under their feet?
I celebrate the male gender. I had a wonderful father. I appreciate my mother for choosing a godly man to be my father. I have four brothers. I have lots of great male friends. When I see a man like my pastor, Rev Sam Adeyemi who celebrates womanhood, I know he is a man of great wisdom. When I remember Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, I believe that there is still hope for the future generation. This is a man so secure in his destiny that he allowed his wife fulfil hers, remaining in the shadows and applauding her. He once said he felt happy when he went anywhere and people treated him specially because he is the HUSBAND OF PASTOR BIMBO. She was airing a programme on television but he was not on any channel. Yet he supported her all the way.
Pastor Mrs Adejumo once advised men to be careful how they treat their wives. She said, ‘If your wife tells you, Bode, go to sleep, this project will work. I support you,’ Then you are blessed. But if your wife looks at you in the face and says, ‘Charles, I am warning you, ‘You better prostrate!’ Do not underestimate the power of a woman. When God calls her a help meet, he knows what he means. She can help you fulfil a glorious destiny. Nurture her and watch her blossom into all you ever dreamt of.
I write this piece to appeal to mothers to train their sons to respect women.
I write this piece to appeal to the older men to teach the younger men to stop ‘creating’ prostitutes.
I write this piece to the church to admonish the males in the congregation to be a source of blessing to women.
It is time to stop creating a generation of people who are ready to cooperate with the lust of the flesh to destroy glorious destinies.
It is time to stop CREATING PROSTITUTES.
This is our chance.
